Besides all those speculations,
how about the possibility that a novel virus could mutate into a modified version that is more sinister? Best to contain it even if the effects are usually mild. The more copies of the virus that are made inside the bodies of sick people, the more opportunities it has to become resistant to whatever therapeutics are currently being used or under development.
Containment is common sense when considered in this light, is it not?
