FLINT, MI – The Michigan Supreme Court will decide whether Flint residents will have their day in court against the state, former Gov. Rick Snyder and others through a proposed class action lawsuit.
Justices heard arguments Wednesday, March 4, from attorneys for Flint residents, including water crisis activist Melissa Mays, and for state and city officials they’ve sued in the state Court of Claims.
Filed in January 2016, the lawsuit claims Snyder, emergency managers and departments of state government violated Flint residents’ “bodily integrity” by exposing them to lead-contaminated water and hiding what they knew about it. It claims that in addition to the health effects of the water crisis, homeowners suffered financial losses due to diminished property values for which they weren’t compensated.
