These are of those sick enough for the hospital to use one of their limited number of testing kits to conform it. There are 10x as many who don't feel sick enough to bother with seeing a doctor. And 10x as many more who barely have any symptoms at all.

Sure. But it's mostly people who are nearly dead already. And it's close to the number who die every year naturally.
If the average life expectancy is around 80 then you'd expect about 1/80th of the population to die every year. If this thing kills 1% of those infected.. you wouldn't even notice without the news reports.
