Heavy Police Presence in Epcot Area

February 27, 2020

There is a heavy police presence in Disney World tonight. Read on for what we know.

Today has been an eventful day for Disney. First, one of the boats on the Jungle Cruise attraction sank earlier this afternoon. Thankfully, no one was injured. However, guests had to be evacuated off the boat.

Disney did release a statement saying there was indeed water on the boat and the fire department arrived at the scene.

Now, we are getting reports of a heavy police presence at Disney World tonight.

SWAT teams have been reported in and around Yacht Club and Beach Club along with police in the area. The full resort was on lockdown earlier. However, that has been lifted.

According to the Orange Co Sheriff’s Office website, a suspicious person was being investigated at the Epcot Resorts.

Guests were being sent to Boardwalk for transportation out of the area, and helicopters were also circling the area.

It has since been reported that police have cleared the area. However, nothing official from Disney or the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been made known what exactly was going on.

Be assured, we at Kenny the Pirate only report accurate information. We take every precaution to make sure what we write is true at the moment. This is what we know so far, and we will not share any rumors or speculations.

Historic "Onward" LGBTQ Moment Was Reportedly Censored in Russia

Just days before the planned theatrical release of Onward, the latest film from Disney and Pixar, it's been reported that Russian theatergoers may miss out on an important character detail. The film is set to include the first-ever animated LGBTQ character in the Disney-Pixar universe, but fans in Russia that saw the film ahead of the release say the scene has been edited in their country.

As previously reported, Lena Waithe provides the voice for Officer Specter, a cyclops police officer who mentions her girlfriend in the film. Slate explained that the moment isn't intended to focus on Specter's girlfriend, rather it's simply an offhand mention that identifies her sexuality.

According to Cinemablend, early Russian filmgoers noted that Specter instead refers to the reported girlfriend as her partner. The Moscow Time notes that the scene essentially eliminates the use of a gender-identifier for Specter's girlfriend, thus leaving it up to the viewer to infer whether the term partner means girlfriend or boyfriend. It's unclear whether the mention will be adjusted for other international filmgoers.

Teen Vogue has reached out to Disney for comment on the alleged adjustment, but this isn't the first time Russia has censored moments in western films. Recently, the release of Elton John's Rocketman was censored to remove gay sex scenes, BBC reported, and previously, the dubbed version of Avengers: Endgame was reportedly edited to adjust a scene in which a background character discussed having a boyfriend. And just this week, Reuters reported that President Vladimir Putin has proposed an amendment to the Russian constitution that would overtly state that marriage in the country is between a man and a woman.
