Nazi flag at Bernie Sanders rally

Nazi flag at Sanders rally sparks outcry, concerns about safety

one man standing behind the senator in an upper section of the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum wasn’t waving a “Bernie” sign like many of those around him.

INSTEAD, THE MAN WAS HOLDING A RED FLAG ABOVE HIS HEAD — AND IT WAS EMBLAZONED WITH A SWASTIKA.

“It was absolutely wild,” Brianna Westbrook, a national surrogate for the Sanders campaign, told The Washington Post. “I never thought I would have seen a swastika at a political event. It’s gross.”

While people near the unidentified protester quickly ripped the offending item out of his hands and he was removed from the arena, the mere appearance of a Nazi flag at an event dedicated to a democratic socialist who could become the country’s first Jewish president sparked outcry. The moment, captured in videos and photos that circulated on social media Thursday night, was denounced as an act of anti-Semitism and prompted increased concerns about Sanders’s safety on the campaign trail.

“We can argue about which candidate should get the Dem nomination, but anti-Semitic acts have no place in this world,” tweeted Steven Slugocki, chairman of the Maricopa County Democratic Party. “This is absolutely abhorrent.”

Of course it’s coincidence: Kremlin spokesman denies trolling Erdogan with bronzework of Russo-Turkish war

Some people believe the Kremlin wanted to rattle Turkey’s President Erdogan by placing him next to a work of art reminding of a crushing Ottoman defeat at the hands of the Russians, but the spokesman says it was pure coincidence.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Moscow on Thursday to discuss with Vladimir Putin the ways to deescalate the tension in Syria’s Idlib province. When the Russian president and his guest were briefing the media, a mantel clock could be seen behind their backs. The instrument is decorated with a bronze group sculpture called ‘Crossing the Balkans’.

Made by artist Eugene Lanceray in 1880, the work shows Russian troops crossing over the Balkan Mountains during the Russian-Turkish war a few years prior. The war, incidentally, ended in a humiliating defeat for the Ottomans, who lost control over large swathes of their Balkan territories.

THE REAL QUESTION FOR DEMOCRATS TO CONSIDER: Who Will Be Controlling Joe Biden?

By Tucker Carlson

As of now, Joe Biden is the strong front-runner for the Democrat presidential nomination. Almost nobody saw that coming. I certainly didn’t, and I apologize for that. How’d we get it so wrong? Mostly because we don’t think like Democrats do.

The Republican Party is a coalition of business interests and conservative ideologues. At its core, it’s about ideas: the Constitution, the free market, and all of the basic principles of western civilization.

The Democrat Party isn’t like that at all. Democrats don’t fixate on ideas. Instead, their base is a constellation of aggrieved interest groups animated by their hostility to traditional Americans. They may not have much in common, but they’re united in their desire to take power and redistribute the spoils to themselves. To achieve that, Democrats know they must stick together, no matter what. Group cohesion is the root of their power.

But we didn’t see it that way. We looked at the Democratic primary field from the outside, and thought: “Is the party really going to nominate a guy with no program, no core beliefs and, by the way, who’s clearly losing it?”

The answer, we learned definitively last night, is… of course they are. Why wouldn’t they? It might work. But hold on.

You’re probably wondering about the most basic question of all: If elected president, could Joe Biden really oversee this complex nation of 320 million people? Judge for yourself.

During Biden’s victory speech last night, he mistook his wife of 43 years for this sister:

BIDEN: They don’t call it super Tuesday for nothing. By the way, this is my little sister Valerie (grabs wife’s hand). Oh no they switched on me! This is my wife and this is my sister! They switched on me!

Trump plans to meet with Brazil's Bolsonaro on this weekend in Florida

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said he will meet with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Florida this weekend.

Trump announced the meeting while speaking to reporters at the White House, saying the two leaders would have dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump did not offer any other details.

Sources had earlier said the meeting was in the works, and one person familiar with the matter earlier told Reuters that Bolsonaro said he was “called” by Trump.

A preliminary schedule for Bolsonaro’s U.S. visit had shown the Brazilian conservative president would be in Florida from Saturday to Tuesday, including a meeting with a senior U.S. military official, an investor seminar and visit to a plant run by Brazilian planemaker Embraer SA.

How movies embraced Hinduism (without you even noticing)

From Interstellar to Batman and Star Wars the venerable religion has been the driving philosophy behind many hit movies. Why?

Interstellar’s box office total is $622,932,412 and counting. It is the eighth highest-grossing film of the year and has spawned an endless raft of thinkpieces testing the validity of its science and applauding the innovation of its philosophy. But it is not so new. The idea that propels the plot – there is a universal super-consciousness that transcends time and space, and in which all human life is connected – has been around for about 3,000 years. It is Vedic.

When the film’s astronaut hero (Matthew McConaughey), declares that the mysterious and all-knowing “they” who created a wormhole near Saturn through which he travels to save mankind – dissolving his sense of material reality in the process – are in fact “us”, he is simply repeating the central notion of the Upanishads, India’s oldest philosophical texts. These hold that individual human minds are merely brief reflections within a cosmic one.

Utah Creates Surveillance Panopticon By Giving Data To Private AI Company

Leaders in ‘conservative’ Utah have swan-dived into predictive policing and surveillance by granting a private company access to virtually all of its data systems and cameras in the state. This is Technocracy at work and reveals the deepest level of bonding between private and public entities. ⁃ TN Editor

Banjo is applying artificial intelligence to government-owned surveillance and traffic cameras across the entire state of Utah to tell police about “anomalies.”

The state of Utah has given an artificial intelligence company real-time access to state traffic cameras, CCTV and “public safety” cameras, 911 emergency systems, location data for state-owned vehicles, and other sensitive data.

The company, called Banjo, says that it’s combining this data with information collected from social media, satellites, and other apps, and claims its algorithms “detect anomalies” in the real world.

The lofty goal of Banjo’s system is to alert law enforcement of crimes as they happen. It claims it does this while somehow stripping all personal data from the system, allowing it to help cops without putting anyone’s privacy at risk. As with other algorithmic crime systems, there is little public oversight or information about how, exactly, the system determines what is worth alerting cops to.

The Upanishads are a collection of texts of religious and philosophical nature, written in India probably between c. 800 BCE and c. 500 BCE, during a time when Indian society started to question the traditional Vedic religious order. Some people during this time decided to engage in the pursuit of spiritual progress, living as ascetic hermits, rejecting ordinary material concerns and giving up family life. Some of their speculations and philosophy were compiled into the Upanishads. There is an attempt in these texts to shift the focus of religious life from external rites and sacrifices to internal spiritual quests in the search for answers.
