Seattle Mayor Durkan endorses Joe Biden for president

SEATTLE - Mayor Jenny Durkan has endorsed Joe Biden for president, four days before Washington's March 10 primary.

"Working under President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for five years, I saw firsthand how Joe Biden fought for working people, LGBTQ equality, health care and criminal justice reform," Durkan said in a statement.

Durkan served as U.S. Attorney for Western Washington during the first term of the Obama-Biden administration. She was the first open lesbian to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the federal prosecutor's post.

Former Gov. Gary Locke, who served as U.S. Commerce Secretary and Ambassador to China under Obama, is also backing Biden.

City of Kent files legal action over planned virus quarantine motel

KENT, Wash. - Kent Mayor Dana Ralph proclaimed a state of emergency in the city Friday and announced plans to file legal action against King County to prevent the opening of a coronavirus quarantine facility at an Econolodge motel there.

In a prepared statement, Ralph said the emergency proclamation would allow her to exercise emergency powers to coordinate government resources in the event a response is needed to the coronavirus crisis.

Ralph also said she has directed the city attorney to file for a temporary restraining order that would prevent King County from opening a public health quarantine facility in Kent for COVID-19 response.

According to Ralph, the county has failed to secure permits for the coronavirus motel and address the city of Kent's serious concerns about public safety.

“We were not consulted in any way about this," Ralph said earlier. "This is a guinea pig for this mass quarantine facility.”
