Research summary
"My research focused mainly on the structure and function of the coronavirus replication machinery. I used forward and reverse genetics, coupled to sequencing, to study both coronavirus replication and pathogenesis. I also established coronavirus reverse genetics for the development of vaccines. My research included the study of human coronaviruses, in particular the SARS- and MERS-coronaviruses and animal coronaviruses of veterinary importance, for example, Feline coronavirus. I also study the genetics and pathogenesis of Murine hepatitis virus. I am particularly interested in the evolution of viruses in relation to the development of disease."

as seen in the screenshot, he is involved with the ICTV (international committee on taxonomy of viruses). The ICTV belongs to to IUMS:
The members of their board of Virology are attached. The vice president is chinese: George F. Gao. Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Haidian
