Russian Scientists Patent Solar Orbital Energy Transmission Technology

The Moscow Radiotechnical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences has registered a patent for a system of transmitting energy from an orbiting solar power plant down to the surface of the Earth, according to data on the website of Russia's Federal intellectual property service.

According to the document, Russian scientists have suggested deploying a solar power plant at an altitude of between 300 to 1000 kilometers and, when transiting a surface receptor, transmit electrical energy to the Earth using microwaves.

"…Energy transmission to the Earth from space can: 1. Ensure the transfer of energy directly to the areas of its consumption and, first of all, to hard-to-reach and high-latitude areas without the organization of long-distance ground power lines. 2. Reduce the use of hydrocarbon fuels, the production and combustion of which have a harmful effect on the biosphere", the explanation for the patent noted.

The document specifies a similar 1971 American patent, in which the creation of an orbital solar power plant was put forward.

At the time, a power plant was proposed to be placed in a geostationary orbit, with an approximate height of 36,000 kilometers, which would allow it to remain above the same area of the Earth's surface and ensure a constant transfer of energy.

In this particular case, however, the receiving station must be located at the planet's equator. The Russian proposal is reportedly more flexible and enables the transfer of energy to remote regions of the planet.

In 2018, First Deputy General Director of Russia's Shvabe holding, Sergey Popov, said that Russian scientists were developing an orbital laser with a mirror-repeater that would transmit energy to those parts of the planet where it is impossible or extremely difficult to build power plants, including the Arctic.

Why isn’t the media camped outside of Biden HQ demanding answers?

The Chinese are doing this sort of thing world wide. They identify key political figures and offer sweetheart deals for preferential treatment. And it’s been working, even here in the US, for decades. What else could explain the enthusiastic export of our entire manufacturing and IP base to a hostile communist regime? Anyone involved in politics saying something to the effect of “the chinese aren’t so bad” are likely on their payroll.

SYRIA UPDATE

In Photos: Syrian Army Seized Hideout Of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Leader In Western Aleppo

Units of the Syrian Army found and seized an abandoned hideout of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani in western Aleppo. The facility is located in the Anjara area, 15 km west of Aleppo city.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is the most powerful armed groups operating in Greater Idlib. It has strong ties with al-Qaeda and at some moment has even been an official offshoot of the terrorist group in Syria.

Czech MP: What Erdogan is doing against Syria is an aggression on a sovereign state

Speaking to the Czech website “Parliament Papers,” Koten said that Erdogan is working on destabilizing the region and Europe, in addition to blackmailing the European Union with the issue of immigrants to fund his aggression on Syria.

For his part, former Czech Military Intelligence Chief Andor Sandor criticized the double standards of the West which are represented particularly through its silence and turning a blind eye to the Turkish regime’s blatant aggression on Syria and its violation of the principles of international law.

Ending humanitarian crisis in Syria needs halting terrorism support, lifting the sanctions, facilitating refugees' return: Ala

During a meeting for the UN Human Rights Council on Monday in Geneva, Ala said that the humanitarian situation in Syria is the only one that is discussed in every session of the UN Human Rights Council. "This is the clearest example of the excessive politicization in the work of the council," Ala added, stressing that the Council's International Investigation Committee continues to promote groundless accusations against the Syrian government that serve the interest of all who seek undermining Syria and distorting its image.

Russian And US Forces Play “Gotcha” Game In Northeastern Syria

US forces deplyoed in northeastern Syria blocked a Russian military column moving in the direction of the city of Qamishli. Such moves are a common practice for the US military, which seeks to limite the freedom of movement of the Russians in the area as much as possible.

Guilty until proven innocent (again): UN report on alleged Russian ‘war crimes’ in Syria is based on ‘We Say So’ & unnamed sources

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry into the Syrian Arab Republic released a report largely lambasting Syria and Russia in their fight against terrorism in Syria. Corporate media were quick to echo allegations of Russian “war crimes” in Syria, all while diminishing the crimes of terrorist groups against Syrian civilians and soldiers.

The report does passingly acknowledge that Syria, Russia and allies are fighting “armed opposition groups, including Hay’at Tahrir” (al-Qaeda); the rest of the document reads mainly as a litany of accusations against Syria and Russia.

In the “mandate and methodology” section, the report notes that its information is based on “233 interviews conducted in the region and from Geneva” as well as from governments, NGOs, and UN reports.

US starts pulling out troops from Afghanistan - report

American troops have reportedly begun their initial troop withdrawal as part of the US-Taliban peace agreement, with hundreds of soldiers leaving the country on Monday with no plans for replacements.

Speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, a US official confirmed the beginning steps of the withdrawal process have begun, with plans to drop the number of US troops in the country from 13,000 to 8,600.

According to the signed peace agreement, the withdrawal process for US troops had to begin 10 days within the signing of the agreement, which took place on February 29. Defense Secretary Mark Esper approved the withdrawal on March 2. Once troop levels hit 8,600, the conditions in the country will be reassessed before further troops are pulled.

The peace agreement was signed last month by US peace envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and one of the Taliban's senior leaders, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, in Qatar’s capital Doha.

Troops are to be pulled over the course of 135 days from five bases, and the remaining soldiers within 14 months should the country remain stable enough to not need US presence. The pact also promised lifting sanctions on Taliban members by August.

Although the group's leader Hibatullah Akhundzada ordered his fighters to follow the rules of the agreement, they did not follow orders and continued attacks on Afghan forces. US troops responded with strikes.

Another aspect of the deal that may be jeopardized is the promised release of 5,000 imprisoned Taliban fighters. President Ashraf Ghani has said he will only release the men if he gets "an executive guarantee so that these people will not return to violence."

Under the agreement, the prisoners are to be released by March 10.

Assange trial rehearsal? Hung jury results in mistrial for former CIA tech accused of handing ‘Vault 7’ docs to WikiLeaks

Federal prosecutors were unable to convince a jury on any of the spying-related charges against an ex-CIA engineer accused of stealing reams of classified material – in what may be a dry run for the case against Julian Assange.

In a significant blow to prosecutors on Monday, jurors failed to come to a verdict on eight central counts against former CIA software engineer Joshua Schulte, who was charged for stealing thousands of pages of classified information on the agency’s secret hacking tools and passing them to WikiLeaks – what later became its ‘Vault7’ release, the largest breach of classified material in CIA history.

While Schulte was found guilty of contempt of court and making false statements to investigators, a hung jury on the remaining eight charges – including illegal gathering and transmission of national defense information – prompted District Judge Paul Crotty to order a mistrial and dismiss the jurors on the case, who had deemed themselves “extremely deadlocked” in a note to the judge.

The split verdict came after nearly a full week of messy deliberations, which saw one juror removed for researching the facts of the case against Crotty’s orders. She was never replaced, however, leaving a short-handed panel to deliver a final decision.

The former technician left his job in the CIA’s Langley headquarters in 2016 and was charged some two years later for his alleged role in the Vault 7 leak. But prosecutors had difficulty tying Schulte to the disclosure throughout his four-week trial, with jurors often mystified by a complicated maze of technical evidence.

The case may offer parallels to that of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange, who faces 17 charges under the World War I-era Espionage Act and up to 175 years in prison over his role in the publication of the Iraq and Afghan war logs in 2010. Assange is accused of helping leaker Chelsea Manning (then known as Bradley) “hack” into military computers to obtain classified material, but if extradited from the UK to stand trial in an American courtroom, prosecutors would likely produce similar technical forensics to prove his involvement, precisely what the government was unable to do in Schulte’s case.
