Coronavirus death toll rises to 23 in Washington state

SEATTLE – Another three deaths were reported in King County Monday while a fourth person died at Overlake Medical Center, bringing the statewide death toll due to the coronavirus to at least 23.

 

And late Monday evening, Snohomish School District officials announced that all of its schools would be closed Tuesday after a worker in its Transportation Department tested positive for COVID-19, affecting the district's ability to transport students to and from campuses. The district also canceled all athletic and other school-related activities as a result.

 

Three of the newly confirmed deaths were elderly women who had been residents at Kirkland's Life Care facility, King County health officials said. Two died at EvergreenHealth in Kirkland while the third died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

 

In Bellevue, officials at Overlake said a man in his 80s passed away after he tested positive for COVID-19. The man had also been a resident of Life Care Center before he was admitted to the hospital for comfort care.
