I may be able to offer some perspective on this. Russia is not our enemy but you have to respect that they have their own 40K ft. plans of their own. During this awakening transition we as a country are vulnerable in a certain way. They wouldn't nuke us or anything but they would take advantage of the confusion within the populace to establish footholds of their own. That's just how the world works. Expelling the diplomats is preparation / security measure.
