I heard a Siberian native talking about how bizarre and surreal it is how much average people talk (without saying anything). Most people seem to have a fear of silence, but northerners have to be silent to listen to the ice. and the trees, and the animals. You can intuit a lot of information without using words. Some culture's pride themselves on their verbosity, maybe it's a reflection of their tumultuous Geo-political positioning that they feel the need to assert themselves over trivialities.
