Just thinking about how it could benefit {them} to shut down normal public life with a virus scare, and prevent people from meeting others in person.
What if the powers-that-be have accepted that they can't avoid "the storm" and the "something big that's coming", so they must do anything to at least control the public narrative about it.
If the common man is meeting in person each day like normal with other dozens of people at work or at school - then whenever huge shocking events unfold, he and the others could exchange insights, argue ideas, explain their viewpoints, and consider new different viewpoints.
But instead, if most people are alone or only with their immediate family, shut up in their own homes, they would probably be easier to manipulate by television news and social media. Especially if all the news channels and social media sites were completely controlled by those in power, who want to reshape the narrative to make themselves look like the innocent victims or the true heroes.
Not saying this aspect would explain the entire coronavirus situation, but maybe it plays a part in their motives, and is part of the reason for all the fear mongering and the closures.
