Now, I'm no geologist but i think we can agree it's not coal. coal mines cover everything around them with black dust. The rocks are red so that seems to suggest an oxide. could be an iron ore mine…or maybe copper. I'd take a guess and say its somewhere in the Western states… too green in the east.
And i think its no longer in use. Cant see any mining equipment in the pit or on the roads. Its a secret ritual after all. Carried out in the shadows away from any prying eyes… or CAMERAS!!!
