Just hours after he called on the NCAA to cancel the men’s basketball tournament to slow the spread of coronavirus, Charles Barkley might have the disease himself.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the big-personalitied former NBA star turned TNT commentator is subjecting himself to a self-quarantine while he waits for the results for a coronavirus test. Barkley also admitted via telephone on TNT that he was experiencing symptoms consistent with the disease.
Barkley would have been part of both the studio coverage of the NCAA Tournament and TNT’s NBA Coverage, but the NCAA eventually canceled March Madness and the NBA is suspended indefinitely as both organizations attempted to protect the health of their athletes, staff and fans.
“I think Turner Sports and CBS gotta close down March Madness, because you can’t have these players, even if there are no fans in the stadium, you can’t have these players breathing on each other for two weeks,” Barkley said in an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up on Thursday. “Even if they have a hotel, they’re going to be in different cities around the country. I hate to say it, I probably shouldn’t say it because I work for CBS, I think we’re going to have to shut down March Madness until we know more.”
