Former Tallahassee and Democrat candidate for Florida governor, Mayor Andrew Gillum was allegedly involved in a crystal meth incident at a Miami Beach hotel early this morning. Andrew Gillum ran for governor in a hotly contested race in 2018, that left Floridians furious after multiple mishaps with voter results in Broward County.

Less than one year before the election, a federal grand jury subpoenaed five years of city records related to redevelopment deals and developers, including a longtime friend, lobbyist and political ally of Mayor Gillum’s. The FBI interviewed Gillum, who stressed that the FBI told him he was not “the focus” of their investigation. A photo showed Gillum on a boat in New York City in 2016 with his lobbyist friend — Tampa native Adam Corey — and an undercover FBI agent who had been posing as a developer looking to do deals in Tallahassee.

Facebook, Twitter remove Russia-linked fake accounts targeting Americans

Social-media giants Facebook and Twitter say they have removed a number of Russia-linked fake accounts that targeted U.S. users from their operations in Ghana and Nigeria.

Facebook on March 12 said the accounts it removed were in the “early stages” of building an audience on behalf of individuals in Russia, posting on topics such as black history, celebrity gossip, and fashion.

It said its investigation found links to an NGO in Ghana called EBLA, or Eliminating Barriers To The Liberation Of Africa, and to people associated with past activity by Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA), a so-called “troll factory” based in the city of St. Petersburg.

The IRA was mentioned repeatedly by U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Investors Expecting Fed to Slash Rates to Zero

As wild swings continue to rock equities markets and hopes fade for a fast fiscal response to the economic fallout from the coronavirus epidemic, calls are mounting for more aggressive monetary stimulus.

The big drops and return of volatility in stock markets are driving expectations to rise that the central bank’s rate-setting body, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), will slash interest rates to zero when it meets next Wednesday to determine its target Federal funds rate.

“In light of the continued growth in coronavirus cases in the U.S. and globally, the sharp further tightening in financial conditions, and rising risks to the economic outlook, we now expect the FOMC to cut the funds rate 100 basis points on March 18,” Goldman Sachs Group Inc. chief economist Jan Hatzius and his colleagues wrote in a note Thursday, as cited by Bloomberg.

Time to end the UN climate fiasco

For years now, the United Nations has been using the climate change crusade as a vehicle to increase its power across the world. Starting in 1995, they began holding massive annual conferences focused on stopping the ‘planet’s temperature’ from rising. That such a temperature was merely a statistical computation that had little or no significance in the real world made no difference – ‘we must stop global warming’ became the clarion call of the yearly Conferences of the Parties (COP) to 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) treaty.

The 1995 Berlin COP was the first and so was designated COP1. COP3 was held in Kyoto where the Kyoto Protocol was created. And so it continued year after year until COP21 met in Paris in 2015 when the Paris Agreement was adopted. Last December COP25 was held in Madrid and, this November, COP26 will be held in Glasgow, Scotland. The Climate Intelligence Foundation (CLINTEL) is planning a major debate on climate change to coincide with the Glasgow UN event. It’s about time.

All this is based on the hypothesis that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from burning fossil fuels was increasing the so-called greenhouse effect and this would warm the Earth to dangerous levels.

When the data showed that the Earth was no longer warming, they simply changed the topic from global warming to climate change, allowing them to attribute any natural variation in climate – warming, cooling, drought, floods, whatever they wanted – to man’s influence.

The UN then passed non-binding agreements for each nation to reduce their CO2 emissions. Taking a page out of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, they referred to the gas as ‘carbon,’ at times even ‘carbon pollution,’ to increase the intended fear. While this made sense as a propaganda tool, it made no sense scientifically. Carbon is soot and coal black which is real pollution while CO2 is an odorless, colorless gas, of course, that supports all life on our planet.

Trump administration blocks states from using Medicaid to respond to coronavirus crisis

Despite mounting pleas from California and other states, the Trump administration isn’t allowing states to use Medicaid more freely to respond to the coronavirus crisis by expanding medical services.

In previous emergencies, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina and the H1N1 flu outbreak, both Republican and Democratic administrations loosened Medicaid rules to empower states to meet surging needs.

But months into the current global disease outbreak, the White House and senior federal health officials haven’t taken the necessary steps to give states simple pathways to fully leverage the mammoth safety net program to prevent a wider epidemic.

Air, Space Force Leaders Near Missile Warning Plan

Part of the new missile warning satellite architecture will be plans for integrating commercial and allied capabilities, explains Shawn Barnes.

WASHINGTON: Senior Air Force and Space Force officials will meet Thursday to hash out an overarching architecture for missile warning satellites, part of a larger effort to figure out both what space systems the US needs for today and tomorrow, and which agencies are responsible for acquiring them.

Thursday’s meeting is a follow-on to the so-called Space Enterprise Architect Summit held Feb. 26-28, an Air Force spokesperson said. That first meeting kicked off the overarching effort to ensure that US military satellite programs across the board are integrated into a single, interconnected architecture. This includes figuring out the roles and responsibilities of Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), the Space Development Agency (SDA), the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) and the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The first step is looking at the current and future missile warning satellite architecture. The central early warning satellite constellation in use today is SBIRS, the Space Based Infrared System. When it’s completed in 2022 SBIRS will comprise six satellites in Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO) and two hosted payloads on classified satellites in polar orbits. The Air Force also continues to operate a small number of older Defense Support Program (DSP) early warning satellites.

As unthinkable as it sounds – and as undesirable as it would be (based on known consumer preferences; more on that in a minute) there is chatter in Detroit that the car industry is giving thought to retiring the AM/FM receiver in favor of music piped into the car via subscription-based satellite radio, iPods, smartphones and various mobile apps.

Rather than these technologies supplementing AM/FM radio – as they do right now – they would replace it.

Trump cracks 50 percent approval in Iowa, leads Biden, Sanders: by double digits

A new Des Moines Register Poll shows President Trump’s approval rating among Iowans has reached the 50 percent mark for the first time and that more than half of the state’s likely general election voters would support Trump if the 2020 presidential election were held today.

The president’s break-even approval rating number is up from 46 percent in February 2019, according to the new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, conducted from March 2 to March 5 and released this week.

Trump won Iowa in 2016 – after the state twice voted for Barack Obama as president. The new poll, which has Trump at 50 percent, shows top Democratic presidential contenders Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders each having 41-percent support among Iowa voters.
