They became a threat to the Supremacy of the Pope, so he had them rounded up and executed while stealing their wealth, in the name of God, as all good Christians are commanded to do in the Holy Bible.

Well, they weren't just executed. They were hung first, but not till dead. Then their abdomens were sliced open and their intestines were removed and burned before their still seeing eyes. Then they were chopped, while alive into 4 pieces. Their various parts were then burned and their ashes were scattered to the 4 corners of the earth.

IN THE NAME OF GOD

It's just funny to me how the Knights Hospitaller (the Pope's Knights) have disappeared from mention. These were the Priests who received the seized assets of the Knights Templar, when they were exterminated by the Pope. While some Freemasons likely escaped, their fortunes, foreign lands, castles, and clientele all became property of the Vatican, and managed by the Knights Hospitaller.

Their entire business was stolen by the church. It wasn't a matter of "stopping the Templar's business". It was that the Templar's business model and oath of poverty that made them extremely wealthy. Subsequently, their ability to back particular warring parties became a threat to the Pope, even after they led all those crusades for his Christians to "pilgrimage" (read: freely invade) Jerusalem. The Pope gave the Templars the authority to become the powerhouse they were. Then the Pope destroyed them and transferred their power to his people. It was an extremely hostile takeover.
