went to a supermarket in Jakarta, Indonesia today and it was a real weird vibe there, but:
-
plenty of TP on the shelves (Indonesia actually exports TP around Southeast Asia)
-
No rice to be found
-
No ramen noodles except for imported Korean flavors (which sell for three times the price of locally made noodles)
-
plenty of Italian spaghetti on the shelves for Indonesians willing to eat a slightly different sort of long noodle
-
no canned meats left. nada. zilch. saw some three days ago, though.
-
plenty of fresh produce and fresh meat, much of which will likely go to waste. people are anticipating loss of electricity so they don't want to stock up on things requiring refrigeration. makes sense.
-
lots of hand soap and hand sanitizer available, all selling at normal prices, no big mark-ups or price gouging. However you have to look hard to find deodorant. What that reflects about consumer psychology in Jakarta, I leave to your imagination.
