They probably intended to sue JK or ruin him somehow and get the building back at a fire sale price. They probably sold it to him just to get his money in the first place, and saw him having it as just a temporary arrangement.
there was also a post some months ago iicr basically saying that JK hated his father and was working against everything that he had done.
