Yellow Vests DEFY Covid-19, lockdown & TEAR GAS to protest Macron government

Yellow Vest demonstrators aren’t letting a ban on mass gatherings or fears of coronavirus stop them from expressing their opposition to the French government, and are staging their weekly protests in Paris.

France’s Interior Minister Christophe Castaner on Friday banned all gatherings of more than 100 people but hundreds of demonstrators are continuing the weekly Yellow Vest vigil and are protesting at Paris landmarks.

Thousands of French security forces personnel hit the streets of the capital in a bid to clamp down on the movement, which has now been running for 70 consecutive weeks.

Eyewitness footage shows riot police firing tear gas in a bid to subdue the activists as the protests spiralled towards violence.

In a televized address to the nation on Thursday, President Emmanuel Macron announced school closures and urged people to avoid close contact for fear of spreading the virus, which has killed 79 people in France and infected more than 3,600.

Before that announcement Paris police had already rejected requests from protesters to demonstrate at prominent sites in the French capital.

The demonstration comes just a day before voters are set to go to the polls in local elections, in which Macron’s party is forecast to fare poorly.

The French president decided to press ahead with the elections despite schools and universities being shut and public transport curtailed due to contagion fears.

"A Tsunami Has Arrived" - Spanish Tourism Collapses

Anyone with the slightest bit of common sense has ditched their dream trip to Europe as Covid-19 steamrolls across the continent, with Italy, France, Spain, and Germany, so far experiencing the brunt of the virus outbreak.

As a result of mass quarantines and businesses' shuttering their doors, Europe's travel industry, accounting for 782 billion euros to GDP in 2018 and 14.4 million jobs, is on the verge of a deep correction.

In particular, we're going to focus on Spain, where authorities have reported 2,277 confirmed cases, 55 deaths, and 183 recoveries. Spanish officials imposed limits on holding large public events to cut down on the transmission risk of the virus.

The fear of the outbreak has led to a bust in the Spanish travel industry, as of Thursday, Reuters reports that occupancy rates at hotels have crashed.

CEHAT (Confederacion Espanola de Hoteles y Alojamientos Turisticos (Spain's hotels and tourist accommodations federation)) Secretary-General Ramon Estalella told Reuters that many hotels have "no new bookings" as tourists stay away from the country during the virus crisis.

"A tsunami has arrived. A meteorite has fallen on us, and we have to see how we survive," Estalella said.

He has requested the Spanish government to take quick action to protect the travel industry from a massive bankruptcy and job loss wave that could decimate hotels and or the industry as a whole.

More than 2.65 million jobs in Spain are reliant on tourism, accounting for 159 billion euros to GDP in Spain, or about 11.7% of GDP. The crisis is so bad at the moment for Spain's tourism industry, on top of an existing economic downturn, that a full-blown recession could be nearing.

President Trump's travel restrictions on 26 European countries, including Spain, to help combat the spread of the virus, for the next month, could further pressure tourism for the first half of the year.

Spain's economy is coming to a crawl this week with mass gatherings banned, schools and universities canceled, and a reduction in business hours.

All soccer matches in the country have been suspended for two weeks after Real Madrid put its team in quarantine for virus infection fears.

The government's virus prevention measures come as Spain's Queen Letizia tested positive for Covid-19. The leader of Vox, a right-wing political party in the country, tested positive for the virus on Thursday. Both government officials are in quarantine.

Iraqi military confirms attack on Taji base, says it shouldn't be pretext for foreign ops on its soil

A military base in Iraq housing US troops has been targeted in a rocket attack that severely injured Iraqi soldiers, the nation’s military confirmed. It also warned that the strike does not warrant a retaliation by foreign powers.

As many as 33 Katyusha rockets have been launched at the Taji base north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The strike left several Iraqi air defense soldiers “critically injured,” according to the military statement. It is unclear if any US personnel have been affected.

The military urged all foreign forces to implement the national parliament’s resolution, passed after the US killing of Iranian top general Qasem Soleimani, and withdraw troops from Iraq.

The incident comes two days after the US launched its own airstrikes against an Iranian-backed Shia militia in Iraq, which it blames for the previous assault on a base where Western forces are stationed. The attack claimed the lives of three soldiers, two American and one British.

The move sparked angry reaction in Baghdad, which said it would file a complaint to the UN Security Council over the issue while the targeted militia called it a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.

President Trump Says He Took Coronavirus Test

President Donald Trump said Saturday that he has been tested for the coronavirus.

The president said Friday that he will “most likely” be tested for the virus after being in contact with a Brazilian official last weekend at Mar-A-Largo, who later tested positive for the virus.

“I had my temperature taken coming into the room,” the president said Saturday. “I also took the test last night. I decided I should based on the press conference yesterday.”

Trump said that he expects to have the results of the test in the next day or two, and added that his temperature is normal.

“Whatever it takes. A day or two days, whatever it is. They send it to a lab,” Trump said.

The president also responded to questions about his own personal habits, saying that he shook hands with business leaders at Friday’s press conference out of habit.

“It almost becomes a habit, and you get out of that habit,” Trump said. “Political people walk up to me. They want to shake my hand.”

Vice President Mike Pence later said that he has not been tested, but that he and Second Lady Karen Pence would be happy to do so if advised by the White House medical team.

Liberty Activist ‘Murdered as He Slept’ by SWAT Team Seizing His Guns—Lawyer

Silver Spring, MD — Duncan Lemp was a talented computer programmer who was raising money to form a startup company to go out on his own. This 21-year-old proponent of the Constitution had his entire life ahead of him. However, because the state of Maryland wanted to take his guns, he was killed in his own home — gunned down in his bed as he slept, according to his attorney.

“He was a talented, smart guy. Super nice. Didn’t deserve to get shot,” said Samuel Reid, whose Canadian software company employed Lemp as an independent contractor.

According to police, at approximately 4:30 am on March 12, members of the Special Operations Division – Tactical Unit were in the process of serving a high-risk search warrant related to firearms offenses at an address in the 12200 block of St. James Road in Potomac. During the warrant service, the suspect confronted the officers and was fatally shot by an officer assigned to the Tactical Unit.

Despite police claiming the warrant was high risk, Lemp’s family, who says they read the warrant, claim it said nothing about a high risk. What’s more, Lemp and his girlfriend who was also shot during the raid, have no criminal record, according to his family.

Police claim Lemp was not allowed to possess the firearms he owned, so they raided his house to take them.

“Detectives were following up on a complaint from the public that Lemp, though prohibited, was in possession of firearms,” the release says without elaborating.

In the process, according to Rene Sandler, an attorney for the family, police opened fire through an outside window and murdered Lemp and shot his girlfriend as they slept.

According to ABC, Sandler said the family believes police fired gunshots, not a flashbang or other projectile, from outside the home, including through Lemp’s bedroom window, while he and his girlfriend were sleeping. Nobody in the home heard any warnings or commands before police opened fire, she said.

“There is no warrant or other justification that would ever allow for that unless there is an imminent threat, which there was not,” Sandler said.

“The facts as I understand them from eyewitnesses are incredibly concerning,” she told The Associated Press.

As ABC reports, the warrant that police obtained to search the Potomac home Lemp shared with his parents and 19-year-old brother doesn’t mention any “imminent threat” to law enforcement or the public, Lemp’s relatives said in a statement released Friday by their lawyers. Nobody in the house that morning had a criminal record, the statement adds.

“Any attempt by the police to shift responsibility onto Duncan or his family, who were sleeping when the police fired shots into their home, is not supported by the facts,” the statement says.

This case appears to be crystal clear. Police claimed Lemp’s guns were illegal, raided his home to take them, and killed him in the process. He had harmed absolutely no one.

European Human Rights Court Rules Against Christian Midwives Who Will Not Abort Babies

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has dismissed the case of two Christian midwives who were denied jobs in Sweden for refusing to perform abortions, ruling that the violation of the women’s consciences was “justified”.

After losing several court battles in Sweden, the two women — Ellinor Grimmark and Linda Steen — took their plight to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which announced this week it will not take up the case.

Swedish law obliges all midwives to perform abortions and makes no allowance for conscientious objection based on religious faith.

In dismissing Ms Grimmark’s complaint, ECHR judges recognised there had been “an interference with her freedom of religion under Article Nine” of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) — but insisted that this interference “was proportionate and justified with the view of achieving a legitimate aim.”

The interference “had a sufficient basis in Swedish law,” the judges claimed, and “pursued the legitimate aim of protecting the health of women seeking an abortion.”

“Sweden provides nationwide abortion services and therefore has a positive obligation to organise its health system in a way as to ensure that the effective exercise of freedom of conscience of health professionals in the professional context does not prevent the provision of such services,” the judges declared.

Both women received state funding for their training in Sweden as midwives, but despite Sweden’s acute midwife shortage, they were refused midwifery jobs when they revealed they would be unwilling to carry out abortions.

Ms Grimmark applied for a job at the women’s clinic at Värnamo Hospital, which denied her the position but offered her counselling “in order to come to terms with abortions and to change her mind.”

The women attempted to redress the wrong through Sweden’s legal system, arguing unsuccessfully that they had suffered discrimination because of their Christian faith and that their freedom of conscience had been violated.

The European Court ruling echoed a recent report from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, which stated that religious liberty must surrender to “human rights” such as the right to an abortion or same-sex marriage.

UN official Ahmed Shaheed lamented religiously-informed “laws and policies that restrict sexual and reproductive rights,” including “partial or total bans on access to abortion and contraception.”

In his report, Mr Shaheed explicitly condemned the appeal to conscientious objection to avoid having to perform abortions.

“One area of particular concern regarding accommodations to national law for religious beliefs is the use of conscientious objection by healthcare providers and institutions unwilling to perform abortions or provide access to contraception on religious grounds,” the Special Rapporteur stated.

Shaheed said that the Human Rights Committee “has called on States to ensure that women have access to legal abortion notwithstanding conscientious objection by medical practitioners, which it has referred to as a ‘barrier’ to access.”

Saudi Arabia, African States Impose Travel Bans on Europe – No Accusations of Racism

Saudi Arabia and a number of African states have imposed travel restrictions on Europe — and unlike the Trump administration do not appear to have attracted any accusations of racism for doing so.

With Italy having become a coronavirus epicentre and other European countries including Britain and Germany expecting a huge percentage of the population to become infected, the Saudi government has imposed travel bans on the European Union and Switzerland, along with India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in South Asia, the Phillippines in the Pacific, and Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan and South Sudan in Africa, according to the Hindu Times.

The Saudi regime has also imposed an internal quarantine on the Qatif oil region, which is home to many Shi’ite Muslims, and suspended G20 meetings and mass gatherings including pilgrimages and sporting events.

The number of confirmed cases in the kingdom, an absolute monarchy with theocratic elements, rose by 17 on March 13th to a total of 62.

African states have begun to take similar measures, asking travellers from the United States and 11 European countries to postpone travel to the country or face a two-week quarantine on arrival, according to the Globe and Mail.

Kenya and Zanzibar have also announced bans on travel from Italy, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo is imposing a 14-day self-quarantine rule on travellers from China, Italy, France and Germany.

Curiously, reporting on these Asian and African travel bans appears to have been reported in entirely neutral terms, while Western leaders such as U.S. President Donald Trump have been accused of racism and xenophobia for similar measures — or even for simply referencing China as the source of the coronavirus, or referring to it as “foreign”.

UK’s Home Office declares that calling someone ugly is a hate crime

The United Kingdom’s Home Office published a tweet yesterday which says that insulting someone’s appearance is a hate crime.

The tweet was accompanied by a video from the charity Changing Faces showing men and women with disfigured faces speaking insults that might be directed at people such as themselves. One woman, however, appears to have no disfigurement other than being bald. The video ends with a call for viewers to join the organization in their fight to “stop the hate.”

The Home Office tweet itself reads, “No one should be abused and insulted because of the way they look. If you are – it’s a hate crime.” However, as Paul Joseph Watson observed in a report at Summit News, this is not actually covered by the UK’s legal definition of a hate crime, which is stated as being a criminal offense “based on a person’s disability or perceived disability; race or perceived race; or religion or perceived religion; or sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation or transgender identity or perceived transgender identity.” Physical appearance is not mentioned.

Watson pointed out, however, that under the UK’s current hate crime legislation, an investigation is launched whenever an offense has been “perceived by the victim or any other person” to have occurred – making it possible for a wide range of possible actions to be considered hate crimes.

The Home Office has a history of making decisions which harm the interests of ordinary Britons. Multiple sources have claimed that in 2008, the Home Office ordered all British police departments to refrain from investigating the existence of grooming gangs that were exploiting young girls and which were run by immigrants across the UK, as reported by Voice of Europe.

$1.4 Million in Cocaine, Methamphetamine Seized at Texas Border Crossings in 24 Hours

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in the Laredo Sector seized two loads of drugs estimated to be worth about $1.4 million in two consecutive days.

CBP officers assigned to the World Trade Center on Tuesday observed a 2012 Ford pickup truck hauling a shipment of magnets from Mexico. The officers selected the truck for a secondary inspection, according to information obtained from Laredo Sector CBP officials.

During the secondary inspection, a K-9 alerted to an odor it is trained to detect. A non-intrusive imaging inspection also revealed anomalies. The officers carried out a physical search of the truck and found 58 pounds methamphetamine hidden in the load of permanent magnets. Officials estimated the drugs to be worth in excess of $1.1 million.

Officials did not disclose the nationality of the driver. The officers seized the methamphetamine and the Ford truck.

The following day, officers assigned to the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge referred a 2003 Honda Accord to a secondary inspection station. An initial screening by a non-intrusive imaging scan and a K-9 detection team led to the discovery of 10 packages of drugs inside the vehicle. Officers determined the drugs to be 25 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $192,440.

The officers arrested the driver, a 38-year-old Mexican male from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and seized the vehicle.

Both suspects and the drugs valued at approximately $1.4 million were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation and possible drug smuggling charges.

“Our officers are dedicated to the safety and security of the United States, and this interception of a large amount of dangerous drugs is proof,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

The smuggling of methamphetamine into the U.S. from Mexico is on pace to shatter previous records, Breitbart Texas’ Jaeson Jones reported. During the first five months of Fiscal Year 2020, Drug Enforcement Administration officials report the seizure of $62,645 pounds of the drug. This nearly equals the 68,585 pounds seized in all of FY19 and exceeds the total of 57,440 pounds the year before.

Ex-Pro Fisherman Slaps Bernie with Lawsuit for Linking Him to 'Criminal Activities'

Wait — isn’t a socialist using something without permission pretty much them living out the height of their ideals?

That’s not how former pro fisherman Jason Quinn sees it.

According to The Herald in Rock Hill, South Carolina, an image of local resident Quinn was used in a Bernie Sanders video that made it appear as if he were involved in “criminal activities.”

That video? It’s called “5 Reasons the Border Wall Won’t Stop Drugs,” according to The Herald.

Yeah, I can see how that title could rankle some people.

Now, Quinn is suing Sanders and his 2020 presidential campaign, the outlet said.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the campaign was a defendant as well, seeing as how the video, which dates back to 2018, was created before Sanders announced his 2020 presidential run.

“Quinn was a professional bass fisherman for more than 20 years who used an Evan Williams Bourbon boat as part of a sponsorship deal, the lawsuit states,” according to The Herald.

In the lawsuit, Quinn says he “[h]as been harmed by the video’s portrayal of Quinn in reference to the trafficking of illegal drugs.”

“The lawsuit asks for a temporary restraining order, then a permanent order, prohibiting Sanders and the campaign from using Quinn’s identity. The suit also asks for actual and punitive damages,” The Herald reported.

The lawsuit was filed whilst Sanders was the leader in pledged delegates in advance of the South Carolina primary, so its sell-by date definitely has it smelling a bit, erm, ripe.

Nevertheless, if you’re going to be accused of drug-running by the Sanders campaign without your consent, you may as well go out guns blazing. Not that you’d ever use any of those things, mind you!

Andrew Gillum Responds To Report He Was Involved in Alleged Crystal Meth Incident

After news broke that a police report named him in an alleged crystal meth-involved drug overdose call, former Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate and current CNN contributor Andrew Gillum responded Friday morning to the allegations.

“I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends,” the former Tallahassee mayor said, as reported by the Miami Herald’s David Smiley. “While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines.”

The police report (below), first obtained and reported on by the Miami New Times, details an emergency call to a hotel room in Miami Beach that involved three men, two of whom first responders suspected of suffering extreme effects from drug use.

Gillum, the former mayor of Tallahassee who lost to Republican Ron DeSantis in the hotly contested 2018 gubernatorial race, was one of the two men the police report describes as appearing to be “under the influence of an unknown substance.”

“Inside of the hotel room, officers observed in plain sight three small clear plastic baggies containing suspected meth on both the bed and floor of the hotel room,” the report states. “The three small baggies of suspected narcotics were impounded at the Miami Beach police station property and evidence unit for destruction.”

Per the documents, Miami Beach police responded to a cardiac-arrest distress call just before 1 a.m. at the luxe Mondrian South Beach hotel. When two MBPD officers arrived, they noted that Miami Beach Fire-Rescue was already on scene treating a man named Travis Dyson for a possible drug overdose, but he was in stable condition.

The officers stated that one of the men involved in the incident, Aldo Mejias, had lent Dyson his credit card information to rent a hotel room yesterday. The two men were supposed to meet later that day. Mejias told the officers that he arrived at the hotel room around 11 p.m. yesterday. Mejias said Dyson opened the door and then immediately collapsed on a bed and started vomiting. Mejias said he began giving Dyson CPR and called 911.

In the meantime, Mejias said Gillum was inside the hotel room “under the influence of an unknown substance.”

President Trump announced an official national emergency on Friday from the Rose Garden in response to the Wuhan Coronavirus.

The President was flanked by powerful CEOs from Walmart, Target, CVS and Walgreens who all vowed to work with Trump to combat the Coronavirus.

Walmart announced they will make portion of their lots available for screening and testing.

Walgreens and Target vowed to make their available to the American public.

US diplomats involved in trafficking of human blood and pathogens for secret military program

The US Embassy to Tbilisi transports frozen human blood and pathogens as diplomatic cargo for a secret US military program. Internal documents, implicating US diplomats in the transportation of and experimenting on pathogens under diplomatic cover were leaked to me by Georgian insiders. According to these documents, Pentagon scientists have been deployed to the Republic of Georgia and have been given diplomatic immunity to research deadly diseases and biting insects at the Lugar Center – the Pentagon biolaboratory in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

This military facility is just one of the many Pentagon biolaboratories in 25 countries across the world. They are funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) under a $ 2.1 billion military program – Cooperative Biological Engagement Program (CBEP), and are located in former Soviet Union countries such as Georgia and Ukraine, the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.

The Pentagon biolaboratory is heavily guarded. All passers-by within a radius of 100 m are filmed although the military biolaboratory is located within a residential area.

Bats, Gene Editing and Bioweapons: Recent DARPA Experiments Raise Concerns Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

DARPA recently spent millions on research involving bats and coronaviruses, as well as gene editing “bioweapons” prior to the recent coronavirus outbreak. Now, “strategic allies” of the agency have been chosen to develop a genetic material-based vaccine to halt the potential epidemic.

WASHINGTON D.C. – In recent weeks, concern over the emergence of a novel coronavirus in China has grown exponentially as media, experts and government officials around the world have openly worried that this new disease has the potential to develop into a global pandemic.

As concerns about the future of the ongoing outbreak have grown, so too have the number of theories speculating about the outbreak’s origin, many of which blame a variety of state actors and/or controversial billionaires. This has inevitably led to efforts to clamp down on “misinformation” related to the coronavirus outbreak from both mainstream media outlets and major social media platforms.

However, while many of these theories are clearly speculative, there is also verifiable evidence regarding the recent interest of one controversial U.S. government agency in novel coronaviruses, specifically those transmitted from bats to humans. That agency, the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), began spending millions on such research in 2018 and some of those Pentagon-funded studies were conducted at known U.S. military bioweapons labs bordering China and resulted in the discovery of dozens of new coronavirus strains as recently as last April. Furthermore, the ties of the Pentagon’s main biodefense lab to a virology institute in Wuhan, China — where the current outbreak is believed to have begun — have been unreported in English language media thus far.

While it remains entirely unknown as to what caused the outbreak, the details of DARPA’s and the Pentagon’s recent experimentation are clearly in the public interest, especially considering that the very companies recently chosen to develop a vaccine to combat the coronavirus outbreak are themselves strategic allies of DARPA. Not only that, but these DARPA-backed companies are developing controversial DNA and mRNA vaccines for this particular coronavirus strain, a category of vaccine that has never previously been approved for human use in the United States.

Yet, as fears of the pandemic potential of coronavirus grow, these vaccines are set to be rushed to market for public use, making it important for the public to be aware of DARPA’s recent experiments on coronaviruses, bats and gene editing technologies and their broader implications.

Examining the recent Wuhan-Bioweapon narrative

As the coronavirus outbreak has come to dominate headlines in recent weeks, several media outlets have promoted claims that the reported epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, China was also the site of laboratories allegedly linked to a Chinese government biowarfare program.

However, upon further examination of the sourcing for this serious claim, these supposed links between the outbreak and an alleged Chinese bioweapons program have come from two highly dubious sources.

For instance, the first outlet to report on this claim was Radio Free Asia, the U.S.-government funded media outlet targeting Asian audiences that used to be run covertly by the CIA and named by the New York Times as a key part in the agency’s “worldwide propaganda network.” Though it is no longer run directly by the CIA, it is now managed by the government-funded Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), which answers directly to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was CIA director immediately prior to his current post at the head of the State Department.

Another U.S. government-funded study that discovered still more new strains of “novel bat coronavirus” was published just last year. Titled “Discovery and Characterization of Novel Bat Coronavirus Lineages from Kazakhstan,” focused on “the bat fauna of central Asia, which link China to eastern Europe” and the novel bat coronavirus lineages discovered during the study were found to be “closely related to bat coronaviruses from China, France, Spain, and South Africa, suggesting that co-circulation of coronaviruses is common in multiple bat species with overlapping geographical distributions.” In other words, the coronaviruses discovered in this study were identified in bat populations that migrate between China and Kazakhstan, among other countries, and is closely related to bat coronaviruses in several countries, including China.

The study was entirely funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, specifically the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as part of a project investigating coronaviruses similar to MERS, such as the aforementioned 2018 study. Yet, beyond the funding of this 2019 study, the institutions involved in conducting this study are also worth noting given their own close ties to the U.S. military and government.

The study’s authors are affiliated with either the Kazakhstan-based Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems and/or Duke University. The Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems, though officially a part of Kazakhstan’s National Center for Biotechnology, has received millions from the U.S. government, most of it coming from the Pentagon’s Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. It is the Kazakhstan government’s official depository of “highly dangerous animal and bird infections, with a collection of 278 pathogenic strains of 46 infectious diseases.” It is part of a network of Pentagon-funded “bioweapons labs” throughout the Central Asian country, which borders both of the U.S.’ top rival states — China and Russia.

Duke University’s involvement with this study is also interesting given that Duke is a key partner of DARPA’s Pandemic Prevention Platform (P3) program, which officially aims “to dramatically accelerate discovery, integration, pre-clinical testing, and manufacturing of medical countermeasures against infectious diseases.” The first step of the Duke/DARPA program involves the discovery of potentially threatening viruses and “develop[ing] methods to support viral propagation, so that virus can be used for downstream studies.”

Duke University is also jointly partnered with China’s Wuhan University, which is based in the city where the current coronavirus outbreak began, which resulted in the opening of the China-based Duke Kunshan University (DKU) in 2018. Notably, China’s Wuhan University — in addition to its partnership with Duke — also includes a multi-lab Institute of Medical Virology that has worked closely with the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases since the 1980s, according to its website. As previously noted, the USAMRIID facility in the U.S. was shut down last July for failures to abide by biosafety and proper waste disposal procedures, but was allowed to partially resume some experiments late last November.

Trump Is Cracking Open Secretive Government Stockpile To Fight Coronavirus

A secretive stockpile of medical supplies is now being tapped to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ “Strategic National Stockpile is organized to support any public health threat,” according to the emergency system’s website.

President Donald Trump’s HHS secretary, Alex Azar, approved the emergency use authorization of the stockpile to combat COVID-19 in early February.

Personal protective gear such as respirators and diagnostic panels are two of the supplies now being pulled from the stockpile.

Thanks to consumers rushing to stores for masks and other supplies, much of the civilian market has been wiped of the valuable tools.

The masks are essential for medical workers and first responders who will work closely with the infected over the course of the current outbreak in the United States.

Now that the stockpile has been opened, those who need masks and other gear the most should have easier access to them.

The stockpile has previously been opened for pathogens such as the Zika and Ebola viruses, as well as for disasters like Hurricane Katrina and the 9/11 terror attacks.

According to a 2016 NPR report, the stockpile is divided across locations throughout America, all of which are secret. The number of warehouses is also a closely guarded secret.

“If everybody knows exactly what we have, then you know exactly what you can do to us that we can’t fix,” National Strategic Stockpile Director Greg Burel told NPR in 2016.

“And we just don’t want that to happen.”

At the time, the stockpile held over $7 billion in equipment and medicines to fight threats on American soil.

Thankfully, the most serious items in the horde, including nerve agent antidotes, have gone unused.

The stockpile’s most recent activation comes as part of the Trump administration’s response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The virus’ spread across the globe has quickly become a pandemic, with a staggeringly high case fatality rate that makes it a much deadlier illness than the common flu.

While Trump’s plan has already shut down travel from many infected countries and regions, community spread means the virus’ presence in America will continue to grow.

As the United States ramps up efforts to combat the coronavirus, the stockpiles’ supplies will be essential for an effective response.

Bosnia: Six Middle Eastern migrants arrested for raping underage girls, four more for drug dealing

Six Middle Eastern migrants were arrested on Wednesday in Bosnia and Herzegovina on charges of raping unaccompanied minors who were living at the same camp.

In addition to the six migrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan who taken in by authorities on rape charges, four additional migrants who were staying at the same camp were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking, AFP reports.

On Wednesday, March 11th, Bosnian authorities announced the arrests of six Afghan and Pakistani migrants at a migrant camp called Bira situated in the north-western region of Bihac, not far from the Croatian border.

Speaking with the news agency AFP, a Bosnian police spokesman said that they believed the alleged migrant rapists had been involved in the rape of “several victims”.

Other individuals have been arrested for collaborating with the group of alleged rapists.

The police spokesman also told AFP journalists that another four migrants whose origins were not mentioned were arrested on suspicion of “drug trafficking and possession,”.

EU crisis: Italy tipped to leave eurozone amid coronavirus panic

THE EUROZONE will start reducing the number of its members in order to survive and Italy will be one of the first countries to drop out, Lord David Owen has claimed in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

The eurozone economy of 19 EU countries barely grew at all in the final quarter of last year. An official estimate put economic growth in the region at 0.1 percent during the three months to the end of December 2019. Two of the eurozone's largest economies also shrank in the period: France by 0.1 percent and Italy by 0.3 percent.

To further complicate matters, the coronavirus outbreak has taken grip of the boot-shaped country and will teeter Rome on the edge of recession.

As the intense struggles being experienced by some of the bloc’s most influential economies highlight the crisis the eurozone faces over the next couple of years, Lord David Owen explained in an interview with Express.co.uk why the monetary union will soon collapse.

Hanno Kirk: New link to autism epidemic

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Autism is reaching epidemic levels in the United States.Many theories have been proposed. For a while thimerosal, the mercury based preservative used in vaccines was suspected. Many parents, not wishing to put their infant children at risk, have refused to have their children vaccinated.Now comes the news that the culprit is not the vaccines, or even the mercury based preservative. (In 2007 the FDA prohibited the use of thimerosal in childhood vaccines). Instead, convincing evidence from multiple studies now points to the action of acetaminophen.Since 1978, acetaminophen has routinely been given by American pediatricians with vaccinations to prevent fever and pain. That was the year a study was published linking aspirin to Reyes syndrome. (Subsequent studies have shown no linkage between aspirin and Reyes). A study from California shows how the autism rate rose sharply as acetaminophen was substituted for children's aspirin.Enter William Shaw Ph.D., Director of the Great Plains Laboratories, who had been wrestling with the problem of the causes of autism for many years. His breakthrough Aha! came when he looked at the autism rates in Cuba. That island nation with a population of 11 million has only 185 cases of autism for a rate of 0.00168 percent. By comparison the Center for Disease Control on March 30 published data that shows the prevalence of autism in children up to age 8 to be 1 in 88 for a rate of 1.13 percent. This was a 23 percent increase over the previous survey in 2006.The Cuban vaccination rate is 99 percent, and by age 6 each child has received 34 shots. By comparison vaccination rates in the United States for most shots are in the 85 percent range. The major difference is that in Cuba acetaminophen is available only by prescription, and is never given with vaccinations. Indeed the attitude of the Cuban medical establishment is that fever is a normal and beneficial side effect of vaccinations. It is seen as proof that the body's immune system is responding appropriately to the challenge of the vaccination. Their rule is not to give medication unless the fever is above 104F or lasts longer than two days.The stark differences in rates of autism between the two nations led Shaw to conclude that it was not the vaccinations, but rather the acetaminophen that was the culprit for the sharp rise in autism in nations that routinely use products like Tylenol for children.Dr. Shaw came upon lots of evidence that when acetaminophen breaks down in the body it produces several toxic metabolites. One important player in this drama is an enzyme known as Cytochrome p450 2E1. This enzyme breaks down the acetaminophen into a highly toxic metabolite NAPQI. This metabolite attacks glutathione, which is the mainstay of the body's immune system. So, after a vaccination, when the body most needs to mobilize the immune system to build antibodies, glutathione, the principal protein supporting it, is being destroyed by the NAPQI. This is why so many of the children in the autism spectrum have a wide variety of highly sensitive or weakened immune systems (allergies, intestinal problems). Part of the problem is that the concentration of acetaminophen in infant Tylenol liquid is high enough to produce toxic reactions, including possible liver damage with repeated doses over several days.One other key piece of evidence came from cases where acetaminophen was given starting five days before the vaccination. In a significant number of children, autistic regression started before the vaccination was given.One of the main uses of acetaminophen is for reducing pain. It does so by engaging the cannabanoid receptors in the brain (the same ones that produce a feeling of well being after marijuana use).This is what produces the analgesic effect. This is where it gets complicated. The analgesic effect is produced by the breakdown of acetaminophen, but some children process acetaminophen differently from others. The process helps to eliminate acetaminophen from the body. An impaired process means that even "safe" doses can produce to an overdose effect. Too much acetaminophen not only affects the immune system, but also impairs brain development. In children who are diagnosed within the autism spectrum, this developmental interference appears to be concentrated in several regions of the brain. One key area is the neural networks which process social and emotional information. The networks that modulate inhibition also appear affected. In some cases the development of speech is diminished.Unfortunately much of this information is not yet widely known. Governments Fall Back on Wartime Tactics for Coronavirus

Officials appeal for support in the face of a pandemic

A global pandemic of the coronavirus is hitting nations the world over, and facing a challenge unprecedented in recent history, officials are falling back on wartime tactics, and particularly rhetoric, with promises of grand emergency measures to try to keep things under control.

Emergency measures are mostly in the form of travel control, banning flights to and from certain places. There has been talks of mobilizing militaries, in practice efforts are centered on enforcing quarantines that were already declared. Deeper measures as yet don’t seem to be happening.

France’s President Macron typified the rhetoric of the hour, saying that national greatness meant “women and men able to put the collective interest above all,” while encouraging solidarity and fraternity.

In the US too this state of emergency is mostly just travel bans, though the Pentagon has halted domestic travel beyond local areas for both troops and their dependents. The US is also scaling back involvement in European operations to come.

Those operations, a multinational exercise, was meant to be the biggest US involvement there in decades. Officials are now citing “health protection” as a reason to dial back involvement.

For the US, the military isn’t exactly in a position to lead by example. In Afghanistan, the Pentagon is conceding that there are US troops with symptoms, but none have been tested. The reason why is simple: the Pentagon doesn’t have tests to administer.

Biden is, of course, correct, because Zionism is a political movement that is rooted in 20th century nationalism and fascism. Its use of religious dogmas is prompted by political expediency, not spirituality or faith.

Unlike US President, Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders, Biden’s only serious opponent in the Democratic primaries, Biden’s stand on Israel is rarely examined.

Trump has made his support for Israel the cornerstone of his foreign policy agenda since his inauguration into the White House in January 2017. The American President has basically transformed into Israel’s political genie, granting Tel Aviv all of its wishes in complete defiance of international law.

Sanders, on the other hand, came to represent the antithesis of Trump’s blind and reckless support for Israel. Himself Jewish, Sanders has promised to restore to the Palestinian people their rights and dignity, and to play a more even-handed role, thus ending decades of US unconditional support and bias in favor of Israel.
