Illinois Mayor Issues Coronavirus Order Allowing Ban on Gun Sales

Champaign, Illinois, Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen (D) issued an executive order Thursday that gives her the power to halt ammunition and firearm sales in the city.

The City of Champaign announced the executive order, saying:

Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen issued an Executive Order declaring the existence of a local emergency in the City of Champaign related to the COVID-19 virus, which is causing or is anticipated to cause widespread impacts on the health of members of the community. Provisions in Chapter 12 of the Champaign Municipal Code provide the Mayor authorization to declare an emergency for a limited period of time. This allows the Mayor to exercise significant emergency powers at the inception of the emergency, and then to provide an opportunity for the City Council, as a whole, to deal with an emergency.

his is more likely just the same old stuff - they tried that with the CDC declaring firearms as a health hazard. And having doctors ask patients if they have firearms at home under the guise it is a health hazard.

They are using emergency powers to get the leftist agenda though. It will be interesting what happens when the "emergency" is over, if it ever is.

Iโ€™m sorry, but this is all starting to look suspicious โ€ฆ

It seems a lot of Democrat leaders are using this to implement the curtailing of individual freedoms and insert government control ..

it doesnโ€™t look good for those claiming this isnโ€™t being politically Weaponized

The U.S. Constitution far supersedes the absurd powers granted to a know-nothing mayor who is clearly overreacting. The Second Amendment, which smashes this trashy piece of faux legislation, is supreme here, so stopping gun sales is not only unconstitutional but smacks of Martial Law on the local level, a power not granted to this mayor. This absurd authority in no way rises above the Constitution.

Brilliant. An unprecedented national emergency is when law-abiding citizens need firearms the most, and she's using it as an excuse to ban the sale of them. If supermarket shelves are bare and people aren't able to find food, they'll become desperate, and desperate people are dangerous. It's when the rest of us most need firearms to defend our homes and families, for Pete's sake.

The same ban happened during hurricane Katrina in New Orleans which was a tragic mistake. The people that swore an oath to protect the Constitution are only interested in protecting themselves. You citizens are an afterthought
