While tracking Dr. Fauci's public statements, he does seem to be interlacing negative/dramatic hyperbole in between his positive statements re: the way POTUS has handled the Covid-19 crisis.
The legacy media infrastructure regularly capitalizes on these negative statements – like clockwork.
This headline from today for example:

On Saturday afternoon, Fauci spoke at a White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing, minutes after President Trump announced that he has been tested for the disease.
Fauci began by updated global infection and mortality figures for the outbreak, then said “if you look at the domestic cases, there are about 2,226 including the repatriations, 50 deaths, 532 new cases, and 9 new deaths. Which means we have not reached our peak.”

Cross-reference w/ Dr. Fauci's long-term background/involvement in HIV research – this is particularly interesting in light of what POTUS has told us re: the existence of HIV/AIDS cures/prevention & POTUS' questioning as to why prevention/cure for HIV wasn't released earlier??
Note he has also been involved in the development of biodefense drugs since 9/11:
