Dear Heavenly Father,
Psalm 46 opens and closes with a great reminder of YOUR sovereign control over our lives and our nation and our leaders and it deals very closely to our present condition.
Psalms 46:1-3 ~ 1 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
Lord, these past couple of weeks have been unsettling to many of us. Whether it’s been fears of this sudden, unknown pathogen the scientists have coined as “COVID19” or watching our stock portfolios go south faster than an arctic blast – these have been days which have reminded some as described by Thomas Paine as “times that try men’s souls.” Though many of us see this unsettledness as an over-reaction to a ratings-driven media with a hidden evil agenda – many others, especially those with at-risk or with compromised immune systems have had genuine concerns about their health and safety. Lord, we pray for our friends and families who have been directly affected by the virus – especially in the rare cases where there has been death. We pray for our military and other forces who are in harm's way. We pray for President Trump and all who are around him and assisting him. We pray for the anons - the keyboard warriors - who have worked so many hours carrying out the labor they have been called to do in this great battle. And we pray for this great nation that you have so abundantly blessed. Help us to remember that we are God’s children and You are our Protector. To paraphrase Ps. 20:7, “We can put some trust in Purell, and some faith in men and leaders. But above all, we will remember the name of the Lord our God. To You be the Glory, oh Lord!
Psalm closes with these words
Psalm 46:10-11 ~ 10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
We claim these words that you gave us thousands of years ago Lord. We exalt You! Lift the eyes of the people toward you, Father. Help us to turn from our evil ways so that you might heal our land. Let there be no doubt that You have spared us and as such let there be a Great Revival in the Land and in the World. We thank you and praise you Father for your loving care.
In Jesus Name
Amen
