I’m not a medical anon, but I've read accounts of how the sickness progresses, and apparently it moves from sore throat to a kind of torrential post-nasal drip that just floods your lungs. When I have post nasal drip, the only way I can sleep is to lie on my stomach and let my nose run. Gross but true. I know this doesn’t cause nasal congestion so I’m not sure how that explanation makes sense but maybe the runoff is so watery it doesn’t have a chance to clog the sinuses before it floods the lungs.
