Why do we allow a private, profit oriented group, like the AMA to maintain a monopoly on our healthcare? They have complete autonomy to determine the annual cap/quota on new medical student enrollment. They have total control over the requirements to become licensed to practice. And they have total control over investigation and discipline through the inherent conflicts in the State Licensing Boards being made up of other doctors.
The medical establishment, including those vaunted religious medical universities like Duke and Georgetown are responsible for this. How can we ever hope for justice? They are just as exempt from scrutiny as the dirty cops, and even more highly regarded.
