The Philippine Stock Exchange will suspend trading starting Tuesday, March 17, until further notice, following the central government’s decision to imposes home quarantine measures on the entirety of Luzon. 

 

On Monday, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the nation on the spread of COVID-19 – the disease caused by coronavirus – and placed Luzon under “enhanced community quarantine” until April 12. 

 

Since the quarantine announcement, the president and CEO of the Philippine Stock Exchange, Ramon Monzon, declared that all trading activities at the exchange would be suspended starting March 17 in order to “ensure the safety of employees and traders.”

 

“This is in connection with President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement placing the entire Luzon under an ‘enhanced community quarantine,” Monzon said in a letter addressed to the investing public and trading participants. 

 

“Please be advised that there will be no trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. and no clearing and settlement at the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines starting tomorrow, March 17, 2020 until further notice to ensure the safety of employees and traders in light of the escalating cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19),” he said.

Governor Wolf orders statewide shutdown due to coronavirus, 76 cases in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced on Monday an additional 13 positive cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state, bringing PA's statewide total to 76 cases.

On Monday afternoon, Governor Tom Wolf ordered a statewide shutdown effective at midnight, for at least the next two weeks, for all non-essential businesses.

 

Essential business, like supermarkets and gas stations, will remain open during the shutdown.

 

Restaurants and bars are to be closed as well, but can still have take out options, according to the governor.

 

According to the Department of Health, the new cases are in the following counties: 

 

2 in Allegheny County1 in Bucks County2 in Philadelphia County6 in Montgomery County1 in Monroe County.

 

All those who tested positive are either in isolation at home or being treated at a medical facility.

 

As of this morning, health officials say 670 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the coronavirus either at the state public health lab, a commercial lab, or hospital laboratories.

 

“While we anticipate that there will be more Pennsylvanians with COVID-19 in the coming days and weeks, it is important for residents to know the commonwealth is prepared and to be prepared themselves,” Dr. Rachel Levine with the Department of Health said. We are working with the health care community across Pennsylvania to keep them informed, consult on patient testing and ensuring they have the resources they need to care for patients.”

 

Governor Wolf and the Department of Health are set to give an update on COVID-19 in Pennsylvania today at 2 p.m.
