SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom asked California lawmakers Monday for a package of up to $1.1 billion to help deal with crushing costs being brought on by the coronavirus crisis for health care needs, homeless services and school cleaning.
His emergency request waived a requirement that the measures appropriating the money be in print for at least 72 hours before they can be taken up for a vote, though it was not immediately clear when lawmakers would act.
