WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — Governors across all 50 states have declared emergencies related to the coronavirus outbreak and nearly half of them have activated National Guard units to support the pandemic response.

According to the National Guard Bureau, more than 1,560 Air and Army National Guard personnel in 22 states are engaged in efforts to support the response to COVID-19.

Since Monday, an additional seven states have called for troops to help. Among the states that have activated members of the Guard are Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.

Depending on the specific needs of the state, the Guard's mission can vary significantly. In many cases, soldiers have been supporting medical testing facilities, assisting health care professionals, providing logistical support at Emergency Operations Centers and helping to move and process quarantined individuals, like the Americans who disembarked the Grand Princess Cruise Ship last week.
