It's possible that a magnetic reversal does not result in a geo-physical flipping of the planet. Best case is the field lines go haywire as the migrate into opposite positions for a period of time, then stabilize. This would make portions of the atmosphere very tenuous, and may result in flash freezing like we see with mammoths that have un-degested flowers in their stomachs (Only possible in a atmospheric vacuum type flash freeze event where the multi-ton animal was solidified, halting digestion from decomposing the stomach contents.)

This is why our ancestors built subterranean caverns all around the world, like Derinkuyu and Giza. It was really the ONLY way to survive.

The whole EU/Velekovsky Planets in Chaos event, to my eyes hasn't been nailed down in the timeline, which makes it harder to accept. I think the most likely event was Scholl's start system grazing Sol 70,000years ago or so. This decoupled Earth from the primordial Saturnian system.

This is one of the most catastrophic things I've imagined: There is something called the "Planetary Birthing Hypothesis" that lays out the impossibility of the accretion disc planetary formation process. The actually mechanism appears to be Stars (and maybe Planets) reach a state of unsustainable energy flux, and in order to equalize electric potential they EJECT the solid metallic or crystalline core from inside the Star/Planet.
