Downtown Phoenix explosion caught on camera, knocks out power at 9pm AZ Time
PHOENIX, AZ (3TV/CBS 5)– An explosion scared some residents of downtown Phoenix Tuesday night.
The transformer fire happened near 3rd Avenue and Roosevelt Road around 9 p.m. and it was caught on video. A resident, Ben Bethel, recorded the explosion.
In the video, you can see the a bright light and hear a loud boom before the lights all go out in that block. The APS outage map said 2,898 customers initially lost power, but all the power was restored by 10:15 p.m.
APS said a couple of burnt switches caused the equipment failure.
