I use Baofengs and just ordered 2 more to be delivered later this week.
I use them because they rx/tx UHF/VFH, FRS, GMRS, and WX. Complicated as hell to program, but they also have a rocker switch that allows rx/tx on two different frequencies.
Great radio for this situation.

I wonder if black hats have been using ham radio. Hams are pretty smart as a group, so it seems they'd be outed quickly. Unless they know Morse code.
