TLDR: One is nasty. But it's dying out because it incapacitates its host before it can spread to more people. The less nasty one is spreading more because it's less nasty. Evolution. This was foreseeable.

Oh no. I've been explaining to retards since that article was published that those similar basepair sequences are very short and are also found in many other organisms besides HIV, including other coronaviruses.
