I can relate to that just on general principles!
Amazon should become a public utility, just like Twitter, Facebook, and the rest. Once something generates a certain amount of cash for its owners and is used by a certain percentage of the population, it should go into the public domain, no individuals should have ownership of these enormous cash cows.

With eBay you can filter what countries / areas / sellers you get search hits from.
In Japan the post office used to be a part of a structure plugged into the social fabric, doing things like checking on the elderly in out of the way locations. I think "certain people" pressured them into gutting that.
