White smoke = class Alpha fire. Paper, wood, cotton, people, etc. Anything that leaves an ash
Black smoke = class Bravo fire. Petroleum products (or products containing petroleum products). Thick, black billowing smoke.
Bonus Naval point - we call people on fire "screaming alphas". They're hard to put out because they move around. Sick humor but true. Sucks to hear until you been there, done that.
Since this one is kinda-black, if I had to guess I'd say coal (maybe with some motor oil or such thrown in).
