Hmm - it sure looks like a state run monopoly in communism.

 

Hey that would be a clever tactic for a company like Amazon. Sell everything at cost to remove the profit from the whole private sector. Rely on gov contracts to keep you afloat. All businesses eventually go under as you keep undercutting them.

Eventually get declared a monopoly and nationalised. Ta Da - Communism in the USA achieved.

Enforce monopoly law. Do not subsidise the largest businesses directly or indirectly. VAT over corporate tax can have some useful effects. If you make and source locally the net effect is a tax on profits. If you make in china import and sell the net effect is amazon pays a tax of whatever the rate of VAT is. You really do not want multi billion dollar companies aiming to not make a profit.

Actually that is illegal in some countries - your responsibility is to the shareholders. Aiming to make little or no profit on a sale would be actionable by shareholders.
