I have been unsuccessful in finding it but I had a snippet from a 1600's… 1647 if I member right, book on alchemy in which it describes this rare essence that is extracted by torture. Of course the writing is much more flowery, it speaks of the red shimmering liquid (every look at blood that has been spun?) And pushing to such an extreme with ruin it etc.

Point is, as with much of symbology, spells, rituals is that whether ii is "real" or not lies within.
If these sick twists believe in it enough to kill, torture, consume children for it…well, does it get anymore "real" than that?
For just plain opulence of depravity there is hurtcore.
