JPII - Demonic InfluenceMany will see the title to this post and assume that it’s hyperbole. Others, like perhaps most regular readers of this space, will answer the question aloud in the affirmative even before reading what follows.
After all, it certainly wasn’t the influence of Almighty God that moved Pope John Paul II to orchestrate the Assisi events, to take part in pagan rituals, and to publicly pray for the intercession of St. John the Baptist to “protect Islam.”
Even so, the thing that moves me to pose this question here today is a video (below) that a friend recently shared on Facebook. It shows footage of the Polish pope at a gathering with high school students in New York at Madison Square Garden in 1979.

Yes, indeed, a certain spirit was stirring that day…

The "beatification" of Pope John Paul II is a predictable step that the Vatican does for reasons of religious marketing. It is the most appropriate form of exploiting the image of the former Pope on its "charismatic" dimensions: the maximum openness to modernity, to other religions and its colloquial populism. The hitting of the "beatification" process is also explained by the reason to fully speculate the sentimental effusions towards John Paul II; a five-year wait would have deflated much of this enthusiasm and, like any spell that does not have its own consistency, the mirage of the "poetry" of the Pope would have scattered until then.
So the Vatican rushed to "canonize", along with a Pope, and his message. A message that goes in two directions: on the one hand, syncretism ecumenism of the highest "performance", as in Assisi, on the other hand, the intact preservation of the main Catholic heresies, led by papal infallibility and primacy.
Very suggestive is the expression "the world pope". It was only at such a pope that the head of the European Union and delegates of Israel could come to the "beatification" ceremony. Only such a pope who kisses the Qur'an dresses in African, Aboriginal and American ritual costumes, while remaining the same pope leading Catholicism, could be a world one. After the prototype of that world leader who will take any mask to be proclaimed the only one . Indeed, we live in an era of planetary presidents and world popes. A sign that the "vocation" of a world leader, political and religious, is increasingly being printed on the shimmering water of this world.
