Sorry, but this bothers me.
It’s not a puzzle, it’s a grammatical trap of the past/present/future participle rule.
To illustrate:
Jim had a cocktail party last night. 3 of the guests were men, 9 were women.
How many strippers attended?
Would you ever write or say:
Jim had a cocktail party last night. 3 of the guests are men, 9 are women.
No, because Jim had.
