HANX and others with old typewriters are signaling a CODE is in play.
Their CORONA type writer has likely been re-keyed. Likely many of [THEM] have already come up with a comms system for emergencies that have the keys set to different numbers and letters.
They type what they are given and a NEW hidden message is produced on the paper.
This technique was used by Allied forces for WWI and II.
