Interesting piece of Civil War era history, a study of how American's resorted to organized violence in the face of Government controlling vital resources (food) during a time of emergency (war). While it is obvious this Wikipoopia article was written by a progressive championing a "community organizer" woman pioneer, the facts are essentially accurate regarding the riots organized and directed by Mary Jackson (a wife and mother) in the city of Richmond, VA during the Civil War. The violence was a reaction to to the heavy handed restrictions on food supplies by the government. At that time, Richmond was the defacto capitol of the Confederacy states in opposition to Lincoln and the Union states.
