Unemployment insurance is bullshit. In my state, there are strict rules about who qualifies for it and what they have to do in order to receive it. Many, many laid off workers are not eligible and those who are have to actively seek work by applying for jobs. The economy is dead - there are no jobs to apply for - good luck peasants. Unemployment insurance is a purposeful shit show (designed to discourage its use) that doesn't get where it needs in a time a of crisis.
