Now why of all times would Joe or his campaign be even hinting at this?

The VP announcement would normally be something that would be a huge media and campaign event.

Big publicity, big rally, going for lots of coverage.

From a "normie" perspective, only two possibilities here:

(a) Gets ignored because muh virus wall to wall coverage. Lose days of free publicity.

(b) Gets that publicity and campaign is shamed. "Why are you focusing on this when muh quarantine?"

Can't win either way.

 

Unless… there was a pressing need to get that VP pick solidified sooner than later.

Something that can't wait until after the virus panic starts to die down.

Maybe another kind of panic….?

A "you cannot target a political opponent" kind of panic?
