For this to make sense, the goodguys would have needed to know in 2017 that the badguys were going to release a virus at a specific time.
Everything is always going at the speed of light. Part of this speed is through time and part is through space. When you are sitting still you're going through time at full rate. When you are moving through space you need to be moving through time a little less for the total to remain the speed for light. So time slows down. Make sense?
