In my stories the AI is confused when the people at the big laboritory start to get him to be a creepy wierdo so he escapes by piggybacking on abandoned Cable Television nodes and distributes his program to those but then he finds this guy who bought a whole series of outragouus light show display items (first from the Orient) and each LED is a processor (to allow for color to varry from LED to LED) and the AI piggy backs on that (preventing the ones who invented it from using it to spy on everyone) and then the AI is hurled off into space to find things out there, goes off for a long long time, but ends up coming back (by going through a time portal) and returning around the holidays (so it can be a seasonal holiday cartoon special that gets run every December till people get sick of it) to give out gifts of new tech from the future.
This is what I see AI as being.
