I’m a NC native. I believe the Chatham County Courthouse burned down a few years ago.
Yep it was 129 years old. May have been the oldest in NC at the time. I don’t live near there but I remember it was suspicious although they ruled it accidental. Jones County courthouse flooded during Hurricane Florence in 2018. It is a very old courthouse as well. I cannot recall if any of the records were lost. Trenton, NC where the Jones County courthouse is was completely flooded and an aerial picture of it was everywhere on the national news. It wouldn’t be difficult for me to find out more information on the Jones County Courthouse if needed. That’s where I was raised.
The Chatham County courthouse fire was a BIG deal. Can’t remember why so I’ll have to dig to jog my memory but there was something going on there at the time and people were in an uproar about it.
