"Spain reported its biggest spike in coronavirus cases as bodies were transported to an ice rink in Madrid, which has been transformed into a provisional morgue to help relieve the pressure on hospitals and stretched funeral parlors.

On March 24, the Health Ministry announced around 500 new deaths and 6,600 cases overnight. The Palacio de Hielo, or Ice Palace, began receiving the caskets this week after the regional authorities approved the temporary operation.

According to national newspaper El Pais, the army’s Emergency Military Unit delivers the caskets and guards them until the bodies are taken by funeral homes for burial or cremation."
