I've heard this many times. But it doesn't sounds right. Turing that nitrogen around and attaching to the the 6C ring, and converting those OH groups into double bonds will obviously be endothermic. Which means it's unlikely to happen spontaneously without help.

Is there any sauce for this theory? I mean real sauce?
