"Freebase" usually refers to converting the cocaine HCl to to Cocaine freebase using ammonia and ether. "Crack" usually refers to the baking soda method. Street crack often has excess baking soda, or it is cut with levamisole higher up in the distribution chain, which makes it an inferior product. Both processes can yield very nearly pure product, however.
