Meghan Markle lands her first post-royal job at Disney

Meghan Markle has secured her first official job after giving up royal life with her husband Prince Harry. Disney announced on Thursday that the Duchess of Sussex will be narrating a documentary called Elephant, which focuses on a family of the large mammals as they travel over 1,000 miles, according to the Associated Press. The film is set to be released April 3 on Disney+.

The news comes months after she and Prince Harry announced in January that they were walking away from their stipend, benefits, and duties as members of Britain’s royal family to move to Canada and make a life for themselves. The decision appeared to catch the rest of the royal family by surprise.

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution," the couple said in a statement. "We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," they continued. "It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment."

Since their departure, Prince Harry has engaged in talks with Goldman Sachs about potentially giving a speech as part of the investment bank’s YouTube series for employees.

'Sobering experience': Gingrich describes being under lockdown in Italy during coronavirus pandemic

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his wife Calista have been stuck in Italy’s quarantine as the country grapples with a massive health crisis. Gingrich said that Calista, who is the U. S. ambassador to the Vatican, has been working remotely as the couple handles the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. He told Fox 5 on Wednesday that the nationwide lockdown has been “a very sobering experience.” “Everything is closed down. The only places that are open are grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations,” he explained.

With more than 80,000 cases, Italy is right on the cusp of eclipsing China for the country with the most confirmed infections. The country has also had at least 8,000 deaths, according to the latest reading by the Johns Hopkins University tracker. “We've been here in the house for 10 days now,” the former speaker said. “We have really steadily restricted over the last two months as the virus grew.”

Gingrich said that people in Italy are only allowed to leave their residences to get groceries or medicine from the pharmacy. “They have very strict rules about walking or driving. If you don't have a good reason to be doing it, you can be fined up to $8,000,” he explained. “They've really gone all-out to try to get ahead of the virus.”

Gingrich said that he and Calista have been using Skype to communicate with friends and remain social, noting that they are “try to have a life that's a little more than just hiding in your room, but we basically are stuck in our house.” Worldwide, there have been more than 492,000 cases of the COVID-19 virus, about 120,000 recoveries, and at least 22,100 deaths.

Clintons send pizza to New York hospital workers amid coronavirus pandemic

Hillary and Bill Clinton sent pizza this week to healthcare workers in New York to show support for their work as they battle against the coronavirus. "Thank you to the medical professionals, grocery store employees, delivery drivers, pharmacy workers, mail carriers, firefighters, police, nursing home employees, and everyone else who is working to save lives and keep us all going right now," Hillary Clinton tweeted Wednesday. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

A woman saying she is an emergency room doctor in Dobbs Ferry, New York, replied to the former first lady and secretary of state's tweet. "Amazing !!! I am an ER doctor at Dobbs Ferry NY and just received pizza from the Clintons," the woman said. "Thank you !!!! We NEED LEADERS LIKE YOU in this tough time. So much gratitude I didn’t know how else to reach you to say thank you."

The Clintons live less than 15 miles away in Chappaqua, New York. Hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers across the country have kicked up efforts to treat the sick following the nationwide outbreak of the virus. American companies large and small have donated medical supplies, donated money to hospitals, or offered free services to first responders or healthcare workers since the outbreak began. "My first thought was gratitude for hospital staff everywhere," Chelsea Clinton, the Clintons' daughter, said. "My second was, of course she did. My third, I admit, was the pizzagate folks are going to go into overdrive to fit this into their conspiracy theory. And, I love my mom."

Pizzagate refers to an unfounded theory circulated on the internet in 2016 by Clinton's critics that she and her former campaign chairman ran a child sex ring out of a pizza parlor in Washington, D.C.
