Original settlers, before the revolution, came for religious freedom. Revolution and creation of USA followed.
Depends on how you define 'shove'. If you mean that you are free from hearing about it then no. You don't have that freedom unless you shut yourself in your room and shut of the computer and telly. If you mean you are free from having the state tell you what you have to believe then yes - you should be free of that.
'Freedom from' does not = insulation from ideas.
