Not so sure about this point, as often times the bigger banks need the assets of the smaller to shore up their own books. NBD was National Bank of Detroit, which became Banc One out of Cinci, I think, then Bank One, then Chase, then JPM. NBD was my first checking account back in the day. As for the other banks you mention, seems accurate enough. Overall, the banks never take the loss and never write things off, they cover up for their own mistakes and just keep piling it on.
